Bratislava introduces new section Here & There

The 12th Bratislava International Film Festival (BIFF) will present Here & There, a panorama selection of films both near to and far from Slovakia.

The selection of 10 films will open with Brazilian director Walter Carvalho’s Budapeste. Set in Hungary and in Brazil, Budapeste is an adaptation of Chico Buarque’s bestselling novel about a Brazilian ghostwriter who falls in love with Budapest and the Hungarian language.

Romania is represented in the selection by two films about family: Radu Muntean's Un Certain Regard title Tuesday, After Christmas [+see also:

portrays a man torn between two lovers. Constantin Popescu will attend the festival to introduce his San Sebastian title Principles of Life [+see also:

, which follows 24 hours in the life of a struggling family man.

Oleg Novkovic’s White White World [+see also:

is one of five Serbian films in the Bratislava program. The remarkable tragedy set in a small mining town earned Jasna Duricic the Best Actress award at Locarno.

Marcin Wrona, named Best Director award at the Gdynia Film Festival, will present his film The Christening [+see also:

to audiences in Bratislava. The film, about friendship among criminals, went on to screen in Toronto and San Sebastian.

Vit Klusak and Filip Remunda’s documentary Czech Peace [+see also:

takes an ironic look at the planned construction of an American radar base in the Czech Republic.

Other films in the selection are set in locations far from Bratislava: City of Life in Dubai, Tehran Has No More Pomegranates in Tehran, I Wish I Knew in Shanghai, and The Dreamer in Manggar, Indonesia.

The 12th edition of BIFF will run November 5–11 in Bratislava, before moving on to Košice (November 12–14), Banská Bystrica (November 15–16) and Žilina (November 17–18).
