Dogtooth confirmed for Oscars race

is to be the Greek entry for this year’s Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nominations. The announcement came from the special committee set up by the Greek Ministry of Culture, thus validating the Hellenic Film Academy’s suggestion in November 2009 to push the film as the country’s submission for the coveted prizes.

The awards race is no unknown track for Giorgos Lanthimos’ sophomore solo project. After winning Un Certain Regard at Cannes last year, the young director has traveled the world with his biting drama, making such notable festival stops as Toronto, London, Pusan, Rotterdam and New York’s New Directors/New Films showcase.

Along with solid business at the Greek box office, the film won major awards at Dublin, Sarajevo, Sitges, Stockholm and Montreal. Dogtooth's associate producer and Lanthimos’ long-time collaborator Athina Rachel Tsangari won her own accolades for her latest directorial effort, Attenberg [+see also:

, which picked up the Best Actress prize for Ariane Labed's performance at the recent Venice Film Festival.
