A constellation of German (co)productions shine at Black Nights

24/11/2010 - The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (November 24-December 5) is screening numerous German productions and co-productions this year. Four of the latter have been selected in the Official Competition EurAsia: Chris Kraus' Poll Diaries [trailer, film focus] (co-produced by Kordes&Kordes with Austria and Estonia), Sergei Loznitsa's My Joy [trailer] (co-produced by the German company Ma.Ja.De), Aktan Arym Kubat's The Light Thief [trailer] (co-prod. Pallas Film) and Tomáš Mašin's 3 Seasons in Hell [trailer] (co-prod. Babelsberg Film).
Loznitsa's film was also selected in the Screen International Critics' Choice sidebar, along iwhtwith Olivier Assayas' Carlos [trailer] (co-prod. Egoli Tossell Film), Michelangelo Frammartino's The Four Times [trailer, film focus] (co-prod. Essential Film) and Palme d'Or winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives [trailer] (co-prod. Geißendörfer Film- und Fernsehproduktion, The Match Factory).
Tallinn also presents EFA 2010 nominees, including Golden Bear winner Honey [trailer, film focus] by Semih Kaplanoglu (co-prod. Heimatfilm); Jasmila Žbanić's On the Path [trailer] (co-prod. Pandora Filmproduktion); Feo Aladag's When We Leave [trailer, film focus] (co-prod. Independent Artists Filmproduktion), which just received the Lux Prize (see news); and Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer [trailer] (co-prod. Elfte Babelsberg Film).
Just Film is screening several fully German productions: Engel & Joe (Neue Impuls Film, Prokino Filmproduktion) by Vanessa Jopp, Gerardo Milsztein’s To Fight For: The Year of Decision (Boomtown Media), Neuköln Unlimited (INDI FILM, Noir Film) by Agostino Imondi and Dietmar Ratsch and Frieder Wittich’s 13 Semesters (Claussen Wöbke+ Putz Filmproduktion).
The Panorama section includes, amongst others, Bettina Oberli's The Murder Farm [trailer] (Constantin Film), while the Forum presents the co-productions Aurora [trailer] (co-prod. Essential Film Produktion) by Romanian director Christi Puiu and Deep in the Woods [trailer] (co-prod. Egoli Tossell) by Benoît Jacquot.
The Special Program on human rights includes Aladag's film, Burhan Qurbani's Shahada (Faith) [trailer] (Bittersuess Pictures) and Szabolcs Hajdu's Bibliothèque Pascal [trailer, film focus] (co-prod. Gilles+Mann Filmproduktion). Many other interesting co-productions will be shown in the various other sections, such as Norwegian director Bent Hamer's Home For Christmas [trailer, film focus] (co-prod. Pandora). Finally, Tom Tykwer will present his latest work, Three [trailer] (X-Filme Creative Pool).
