Hočevar’s Going Our Way fends off Harry Potter

Miha Hočevar’s Going Our Way has sold 107,099 admissions after four weekends on release in Slovenia, earning €460,271 at the box office.
Distributed by Cinemania on 11 prints, the teenage comedy fended off Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 [+see also:
film profile], which opened two weekends ago on 16 prints through Blitz, to 20,315 admissions and €99,484. Comparatively, Going Our Way’s opening weekend saw 23,638 tickets sold, for €110,467. Even on Harry Potter’s second weekend, the local hit sold a thousand admissions more.
Going Our Way deals with a group of boy scouts on a camping trip. The camp leader (Jurij Zrnec) takes scouting much too seriously and the boys would rather have fun and try their luck with the girls from the neighboring camp, so Alex (Tadej Koren Šmid) and two friends volunteer for a camping-in-the-wild competition.
Hočevar’s film is already the third highest local grosser at home, after Rooster's Breakfast (2007 - 182,965 tickets admissions) and Cheese and Jam’s (2003 - 155,213 admissions). It is expected to surpass the 204,689 spectators of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and become the second highest grosser ever in the territory, behind only Titanic and its over 400,000 tickets.
With Slovenia’s population of two million, the film’s success is even more impressive. “We attracted the target audience through Facebook and YouTube campaigns,” says producer Danijel Hočevar of Vertigo. “The combination of a fun and unpretentious story with whose characters the audience can identify and the very popular Zrnec in the main role led to this immensely successful release.”
