UCI acquires multiplexes from France’s Vis Pathè

by

UCI Italia has bought three multiplexes (and their 39 screens) from French company Vis Pathè, in Roma Lunghezza, Turin and Campi Bisenzio. With this acquisition, the Italian subsidiary of the European chain Odeon & UCI Cinemas, held by Terra Firma, becomes the multiplex leader in Italy with 303 screens and a market share of almost 14%.

Their main competitor in the local market, with 268 screens, is The Space Cinema, launched a year ago (see news) by 21 Partner, a private equity firm headed by Alessandro Benetton that holds 51% of the joint venture, and Medusa (49%), which belongs to Prime Minister Silvio Berluconi’s family-owned Gruppo Mediaset.

UCI Cinema holds a total 1900 screens in the UK, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Italy.
