FESTIVALS UK

Focus on Mental Health

by

- For four days in June 2003, London’s ICA will host “Mind Matters” a festival about the issue of mental health and how it is perceived by society

Mind Matters is a new 4-day film festival organised by the Documentary Filmmakers Group (DFG) and Mental Health Media, scheduled to run at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in June 2003.
It will screen films: features, documentaries and experimental productions that highlight various aspects of mental illness in an attempt to dispel the widespread climate of misinformation, stereotypes and stigma that surrounds this form of illness. The organisers will also schedule seminars and workshops for debate on the variety of issues that surround mental illness in the hope of educating and informing the general public and youth, in particular, while celebrating human diversity with enlightening, interesting and entertaining films of a genre usually ignored by mainstream media.
Filmmakers, including the personal accounts of “survivors” of mental illness, are invited to submit their work. A VHS copy of a short, feature length, fiction or non-fiction of any format and genre should be sent together with a written synopsis to:
