Those little D’Alò devils

by

After the success of animated features like La Gabbianella e il Gatto and Momo, Enzo D’Alò is back with a new film, the curiously-entitled Opopomoz. This Italo-Iberian co-production was made with funding from Eurimages and the Italian Ministry for Culture. D’Alò presented his latest work with a press conference at MIFED 69 in Milan.
Opopomoz is also an important event since it heralds the beginning of a new alliance between RaiCinema/Albachiara and French distributor and producer, MK2, who will also handle the world sales (with the sole exceptions of Spain and Eplanet and Italy’s Mikado).
Based on an original story by Enzo D’Alò and pre-eminent Italian filmmaker, Furio Scarpelli and his son, Giacomo, Opopomoz is a Nativity story about three little devils who, jealous of the Christmas festivities that celebrate Jesus’ birth, decide to do something to change things. They decide to travel to Naples, the traditional home of artistic Nativity scenes, where, helped by Rocco, a little boy who is jealous of the little brother who’s about to be born, the devils decide to stop Jesus from being born. Thanks to the magic work “Opoponaz”, they enter the Nativity scene itself and try to join Joseph and Mary on their way to Bethlehem.
“Unlike any of my earlier films, this will be made in Italian, and will be twice as extraordinary because I have put together an excellent international cast. Their names must remain secret for a little while yet,” said D’Alò.
Opopomoz is scheduled for release in France and Italy in time for Christmas 2003 although D’Alò promised Olivier René Veillon, the vice-president of MK2, he will have a 20-minute clip ready in time for the next Cannes Film Festival.
