Modelled on Sweden’s Film i Vast based in Trollhattan, FilmFyn is Denmark’s first and, to date, only regional film centre and it was set up on the island of Funen (Fyn) 25 November 2002. This new and ambitious company will become fully operation in 2003. It is supported by Denmark’s nine municipalities, the national broadcaster TV2/Danmark and the Danish Producers’ association. FilmFyn was created to provide financial backing for feature and TV film production, improve the circulation of Danish films in Denmark and consequently, the national film industry.
“With US Dollars 3.3 million available over a 4-year period we expect to accommodate four features annually,” said Erik Crone of Nordisk Film, one of the ideators of FilmFyn. The project also received a US Dollars 900,000 subsidy from the EU. Erik Crone will produce FilmFyn’s first feature, about the world famous Danish storyteller, Hans Christian Andersen, becoming a young dog. Zentropa Entertainment has approached FilmFyn with regards to producing a TV series.
