Cinema admissions in the UK reached 16.5 million in November 2002, an average of 3.84 million admissions per week. According to data published by the Cinema Advertising Association, a 12 per cent increase on the same month last year. The best performing title of the month was Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets with a gross UK box office of over GBP35million (Euros52.5million), more than double that of the 20th Bond movie, Die Another Day that was released five days after “Potter” and grossed over GBP16million (Euros24million).
The following 8 titles in the UK's November 2002 Top 10: 28 Days Later, Mr Deeds, xXx, Changing Lanes, Lilo & Stitch, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Red Dragon and Rabbit Proof Fence, together totalled GBP20.7m (Euros31.05m) - a result that clearly illustrates the immense popularity of Potter and "Bond".
The CAA is scheduled to release the total UK attendance figures for 2002 in a few weeks’ time.
