European victory at FIPA 2003

- European TV productions dominate the Biarritz event with Germany's Kleinert, Italy's Gasparini and Denmark's Falk

European television programmes won all the major awards at the 16th edition of FIPA (International Festival of Audiovisual Programmes) in Biarritz. The Golden Fipa for best drama went to Mein Vater directed by Germany’s Andreas Kleinert and produced by Colonia Media Film Productions. Robin Renucci and Marthe Keller won the best acting accolades for their performances in two France 2 co-productions: Le train de 16h19 directed by Philippe Triboit (produced by Pathé Tele) and El Caballero Don Quijote [+see also:

Best documentary went to Purity by Israel's Anat Zuria, with Belgian-German co-production, La Décomposition de l’âme, by Massima Ianetta and Nina Toussaint, winning the Silver Fipa. Denmark’s Tobias Falk won the best short film accolade for En fars son.
The festival was also an opportunity for industry operators to meet at debates like “Television and Culture”, presided over by Catherine Clément, the author of an eponymous report, and “Images under control: violence towards filmmakers”, a round-table discussion organised by dalla SACD, and featuring representatives of Groupe 25 Images, SRF (French Directors’ Society) and director Jean-Jacques Beneix.
