Iceland wins in Angers

The 15th edition of the Premiers plans Festival of Angers, specialised in promoting the work of young filmmakers, ended on Saturday, 25 January. This year's best first feature (including a cash prize of Euros15,200) went to Iceland’s Dagur Kari for Noi Albinoi.
Jeanne Moreau and her jury assigned a total of 23 awards in the event’s four categories (best first European feature, European short, debut French short and best film by students of a European film school).
France’s Eric Guirado won the Audience Award for Quand tu descendras du ciel and Tagikistan’s Djamshed Usmonov won the special jury prize for The Angel on the Right.
Mamaman by Belgium’s Iao Lethem won the best short film category, beating Dutch production Lot, although its director Tamar Van den Dop won both the audience award and a special prize from the jury.
Angers is a celebrated showcase for coming European talents and past discoveries include Denmark’s Thomas Vinterberg and France’s Arnaud Desplechin.
