Woman becomes Recruited Love puppet

by

Theatre director and documentary filmmaker Tadeusz Król makes his narrative feature debut with Recruited Love (original title: Zwerbowana Miłość), which will be released in Polish theatres on Saturday, December 25.

The story centres on two agents of the communist special services (played by Robert Więckiewicz and Krzysztof Stroiński) who are planning an operation to intercept secret documents smuggled across the borders. To carry out their plan, they recruit a woman who gradually becomes a puppet in their hands. Unaware of the plot, Anna (Joanna Orleańska) falls madly in love with Andrzej, one of the agents, and they start a passionate relationship.

Although the film’s storyline is based on real events that took place in 1989, a historically pivotal year for Poland with the fall of the communist regime, politics only plays a minor, background role in the film. Król explains: "First and foremost, it’s a film about love. The screenplay is an almost exact adaptation of the strange affair experienced by the real protagonists. When we discovered this story recounted by a man who is the basis for the character of Andrzej, what struck us was that he didn’t talk about the political and criminal motivations, but about love... A love born by chance in the machinery of history".

Lensed by DoP Tomasz Augustynek, Recruited Love was produced by Media Brigade in co-production with FDR Studio, editingbrigade, Grupa 13 and Divizion Studio Filmowe. The film is distributed by Best Film.
