Rotterdam announces its Tigers
The 14 films making up the full Tiger Award Competition line-up of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) were announced over the weekend.
Greek second feature Wasted Youth from Argyris Papadimitropoulos and Jan Vogel will open the festival on January 26 (see news). The film is part of the competition of the 40th edition of the IFFR, which runs until February 6.
Two more European titles will compete for one of the three ex-aequo Tiger Awards, each worth €15,000.
Spanish director Sergio Caballero will premiere his debut feature Finisterrae [+see also:

film profile], a road movie about two lost souls inspired by Philippe Garrel’s The Inner Scar from 1972.
Lawrence Tooley will present Headshots [+see also:

film profile] in Rotterdam, a second feature. The German/Austrian co-production follows a female photographer in Berlin, a city full of artists.
The festival’s line-up, which can be seen in full here, comprises first and second features and this year focuses heavily on Asian (seven films) and South American (four) titles.

film profile]); Sandra den Hamer, director of the EYE Film Institute Netherlands and former IFFR director; filmmaker Andrei Ujica (The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu [+see also:

film profile]) from Romania; Thai director Wisit Sasanatieng (Tears of the Black Tiger); and US musician Lee Ranaldo, from rock band Sonic Youth.
