Record number of buyers at Nordic Film Market

The 12th Nordic Film Market (NFM, February 3-6), held parallel to the Göteborg International Film Festival, is expecting approximately 250 international film and TV professionals, including a record number of buyers (68, compared to 50 in 2010).

“The growing number of buyers reflects the popularity of Nordic films that started with the Millennium films, and it was here last year that the buying frenzy on the crime thriller Easy Money [+see also:

began,” says Cia Edström, head of the NFM. “People come here while en route to Berlin, and by showcasing selected Nordic titles we actually facilitate the work of many professionals and make Berlin more efficient for them.”

Sales agent Tine Klint (LevelK) agrees: “The Nordic Film Market is perfect for pre-promoting completed films, adjusting strategies and for discovering new talent. Plus, there is always a work in progress that surprises us all.”

Of the NFM’s 13 works in progress by established and up-and-coming directors, eagerly anticipated projects include Oslo, August 31 by Joachim Trier (Reprise [+see also:

According to Edström, debut films to watch for are Mads Matthiesen’s Danish title Teddy Bear, about a shy body builder who goes on a love quest in Thailand, co-written by Zandvliet; and the Swedish thriller Gone by Henrik JP Åkesson and Mattias Olsson.
