Bardem the drug smuggler

Pablo Escobar, head of the notorious Medellin drug cartel in Colombia is about to have his life turned into a film starring Spanish actor, Javier Bardem. After two years of negotiations, Latino film director Gregory Nava and actor-director Antonio Banderas managed to purchase the film rights to "Killing Pablo" by Mark Bowden, a leading journalist with the Philadelphia Inquirer. The book ends with Escobar's death in 1993. Nava and Banderas will produce the film while Joe Carnahan is rewriting Bowden's script. Carnahan is also scheduled to direct and the film will go into production in the autumn.
