A Record January

by

- Almost 115,000 saw domestic productions. Top film was Pelle Politibil, selected for Kinderfilmfest in Berlin

January 2003 was a record month for Norwegian admissions to Norwegian films with 114,997 tickets sold. This is a five-fold increase on the previous record of 26,702 that was set in January 2001.
Two films were largely responsible for setting this record: Pelle Politibil (Pelle the Police Car directed by Thomas Kaiser for his production outfit, Yellow Cottage AS, and based on Age Magnussen's popular Norwegian TV and video character. Pelle The Policecar was selected for screening in Berlin’s Kinderfilmfest, and BV International Pictures are handling the sales rights.
The second strong performer was Salmer fra kjøkkennet (Psalms From The Kitchen) directed and produced by Bent Hamer for BulBul Film AS. This is Hamer's third feature after Eggs and Water Easy Reach.
A third children's film, a cartoon entitled Karlsson på taket (Karlsson On The Roof), directed by Vibeke Idsøe, produced by John M. Jacobsen (Pathfinder), and based on Astrid Lindgren’s best-selling novel continues to do well at the Norwegian box office. Since its 27 September 2002 release, the film has been seen by 182,000 people. AB Svensk Filmindustri is handling the international sales.
