Strickland takes otherworldly trip to Berberian Sound Studio

British director Peter Strickland has commenced principal photography at London locations on Berberian Sound Studio, his second film after the acclaimed Katalin Varga [+see also:

that won the Silver Bear in Berlin and The European Film Academy's Discovery of the Year award in 2009.

Berberian Sound Studio is one of the cheapest, sleaziest post-production studios in Italy, where only the most sordid horror films have sound done. British sound engineer Gilderoy (Toby Jones) is hired to mix the latest giallo film by horror maestro, Santini (Antonio Mancino) and he soon finds himself caught up in a forbidding world of bitter actors, capricious Foley artists and confounding bureaucracy. As both time and realities shift, Gilderoy finds himself lost in an otherworldly spiral of sonic and personal mayhem.

The film is the ninth project from Warp X’s production slate, with the support of the UK Film Council, Film4, Screen Yorkshire and Geissendoerfer Film- und Fernsehproduktion KG in association with Madman Entertainment.

) and Mary Burke (Submarine [+see also:

) are producing. Veteran German producer/director Hans Geissendoerfer is co-producing and Film4’s Katherine Butler, Warp’s Robin Gutch and Screen Yorkshire’s Hugo Heppell are serving as executive producers.
