by

Shooting starts May 9 in Apulia, in Brindisi, on the first solo directorial effort of Daniele Ciprì (of duo Ciprì and Maresco), È stato il figlio (“It Was My Son”), starring Toni Servillo. The announcement came from the director at the 12th Lecce Festival of European Film, which runs through April 16.

Written by Ciprì and Massimo Gaudioso, the film is based on the eponymous novel by Roberto Alajmo, about a family whose young daughter is accidentally killed in a shoot-out.

“It’s set in Sicily, but the film is not about the mafia,” said Servillo. “I’ll play a father who has a very strong bond with his son. My character is comical and over-the-top, as well as dramatic.”

The cast also features Chilean actor Alfredo Castro (Tony Manero). È stato il figlio is produced by Passioni Produzioni with a contribution from the Ministry of Culture (MIBAC).
