Cineuropa launches European Film School Network database

On April 6 and 7 a conference was held in Paris on the European Film School Network, organised by Femis, in collaboration with the London Film School and VSMU in Bratislava, and with support from the MEDIA Programme.

This annual meeting of European film and television school professionals aims to put forth a debate on educational themes, improve mutual awareness between network schools and organise student and teacher exchange programmes.

This year, the conference brought together 22 schools from 18 countries, to discuss the topic of research. The aim of the discussion was to highlight the similarities and differences in various film schools’ research methods and to define and localizzare artistic research in Europe.

According to Pascale Borenstein, head of international relations at Femis and organiser of this initiative, it is highly likely that all European film schools will in the coming years offers doctoral programmes, which makes the discussion an important one. Marc Nicolas, director of Femis, pointed out that education is becoming an increasingly greater priority for national governments and how cooperation among schools, and between schools and European bodies, is vital to the expansion and development of the schools’ activities.

During the meeting, Suzy Gillet of the London Film School spoke of the creation of a space dedicated to the European Film School Network within the Cineuropa. The platform can already be consulted and contains information on some of the member schools of European Grouping of Film and Television Schools (GEECT), with a presentation of the schools and courses offered.

The database further offers video material, shorts and trailers, produced by the students. The platform is under constructions and is accepting all film schools that want to participate.
