Tom Tykwer continues to alternate between international projects and German features. After his major co-production The International [+see also:

film profile], starring Naomi Watts and Clive Owen, followed by Berlin-set film Three [+see also:

film profile], he is preparing US production Cloud Atlas. He will co-direct with Andy and Lana (formerly Larry) Wachowski, who helmed the Matrix films.

Co-scripted by Tykwer and the Wachowskis, the film is based on David Mitchell’s homonymous conceptual fantasy novel. Using different styles, it recounts six different destinies that ultimately intertwine. Tom Hanks has accepted a lead role, as have Halle Berry and James Mc Avoy.

Cloud Atlas is produced by Grant Hill and Germany’s Stefan Arndt. Shooting is expected to start next autumn and the film will be ready in 2012.
