Pozdniakovas turns Sanskrit epic into 3D animation

by

Finnish director-editor-sometime actor Arturas Pozdniakovas has started production on the €8.7m The Legend of King Nal (Kuningas Nalin tarina), a 3D animated feature based on the Indian national epic, Mahabharata. The Finnish Film Foundation has chipped in €0.8m for the film, which will be completed in spring 2013.

Described as “a fantasy – a fairy tale movie for the whole family,” the Osmo Production is intended to introduce the 1.8 million-word Sanskrit classic to a large audience. Pozdniakovas begins his story when the reign of Dvapara, the benificent Lord of Time, ends. Bio Rex Cinemas will handle local distribution.

Samuli Valkama’s Love and Other Troubles received €0.7m towards a €1.5m budget. Produced by Bronson Club, and domestically released by Nordisk Film, the ”almost romantic comedy” will lens from July from a script by Katri Manninen and Valkama.
