Finnish Film Foundation re-appoints Krohn to her own position
The board of the Finnish Film Foundation has re-appointed Irina Krogn to the position of managing director from a field of 12 applicants, of whom five were interviewed.
”The job was declared vacant, because the board wanted to examine carefully the future and actual changes in the Finnish film industry, and to reflect upon the leadership required by these changes,” said president of the board Georg Dolivo.
”Changes in distribution questions the whole cinematic value chain, challenging the existing models of film production. The operation of the foundation calls for sensitivity and readiness for changes, and strategic initiatives to secure volume and quality of local films.
”We want to support the progress of the film industry to continue providing experiences for audiences in Finland and increasingly abroad,” Dolivo concluded. Krohn was signed for a five-year period; maximum for a ceo is two subsequent terms.
An MA from Finland’s Theatre Academy, she is a former politician, member of the Finnish parliament, the City Council of Helsinki (Green League) and various other organizations. She was installed as head of the film foundation in 2005.
In 2010 the Finnish film industry produced 23 features, to control 27% of the market – up 12% on 2009; two local titles topped the charts, Dome Karukoski’s Lapland Odyssey [+see also:

film profile] and Mari Rantasila’s Ricky Rapper and the Bicycle Thief. Admissions totaled 7.4 million, 8% better than the previous year.
