Filmstiftung NRW expands its activities...and its name

by

Coinciding with the opening of the International Film Congress at the Medienforum NRW in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia’s regional film promotion institution, Filmstiftung NRW, has announced a name change due to the diversification of its activities. The organisation’s new name will be Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, making way for the promotion of innovative content for all media.

Up to now, the institution has housed the region’s film commission and a regional office of the MEDIA Programme. After the restructuring, it will also take charge of the Mediencluster NRW, which is responsible for promoting and attracting investment for the region’s media industries, as well as helping them to develop and expand.

The hitherto-named Filmstiftung NRW is therefore diversifying its activities and the region’s media promotion work is concentrated into one single organisation. Regional Media Minister Angelica Schwall-Düren said: “With the new and integrated Film-und Medienstiftung NRW, the region is paving the way for its future. The financial support for media, digital media and marketing are key objectives for the continuing development of our media. With the Film- und Medienstiftung, we know that this task is in good hands”.

Petra Müller, who has headed Filmstiftung since last October, took advantage of the International Film Congress to unveil the Medienland NRW guide, the first detailed catalogue of the region’s different cultural industries (film, television, music, advertising, Internet, video games, publishing…). She also assured that this restructuring would combine the new with the well-established “without losing sight of the institution’s main task, which is film financing”.
