Three years after The Blind Sunflowers (2008), which represented Spain in the race for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2009, Spanish director José Luis Cuerda (pictured) is back behind the camera for the drama Todo Es Silencio (“All Is Silence”), whose shoot will pass its halfway point in the next few days. After a first phase in different locations in Galicia, filming will wrap in Alicante’s Ciudad de la Luz Studios, for a total of seven weeks.

Based on a screenplay by writer Manuel Rivas commissioned by producer Gerardo Herrero, which was published in novel form in October 2010, the story revolves around the world of drug trafficking and the smuggling networks that operate on the Galician coast and end up controlling the life of the villages where they land up. A group of youngsters discover this world, ruled by mafia boss Mariscal.

Todo Es Silencio marks a new collaboration between Cuerda and Rivas after the feature Butterfly Tongues (1999), based on three stories from the book “¿Qué Me Quieres, Amor?” (“What Do You Want From Me, Love?”), and the short film Primer Amor (2000).

One of the film’s main attractions will no doubt be its two lead actors: Quim Gutiérrez (favourite actor of Daniel Sánchez Arévalo – DarkBlueAlmostBlack [+see also:

film profile]) and Miguel Ángel Silvestre (who, after achieving enormous popularity on television, is starting a promising film career – Verbo, Lo Mejor de Eva).

The film is produced by Herrero through his companies Tornasol Films and Castafiore Films, in collaboration with Milou Films, Zebra Producciones and Foresta Films, with backing from television companies TVE, Canal+ and TVG.
