Summer Games picked as Switzerland’s Oscar entry

The Swiss entry in the nomination race for the 2012 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar has now been announced: it is Rolando Colla’s Swiss/Italian co-production Summer Games [+see also:

. The jury put together by the Swiss Federal Office for Culture returned its decision on September 24.

The film chosen to compete at the 84th Academy Awards in Hollywood won’t have come as a big surprise. Indeed, Summer Games had already scored initial critical success by nabbing a slot at the latest Venice International Film Festival, where it screened in world premiere.

Handled by the promotional agency for Swiss cinema, Swiss Films, the campaign to secure a nomination for the Oscars – the ceremony of which will be held on February 26, 2012 in the traditional Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles – will involve several screenings of the film across the United States. It will officially end on January 24, 2012, when the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces the final nominees.
