Scripted by Ulrich Hermann and Greg Latter from Swiss novelist Pascal Mercier's bestseller, the depiction of a Swiss professor's voyage in time and space searching for a Portuguese writer will begin principal photography next March for Germany's Studio Hamburg FilmProduktion and Switzerland's C-Films, Germany's C-Films, TMG-Tele München Group, and Portugal's Cinemate.

Irons is the professor who accidentally stumbles upon a book by a Portugese author, which makes him abandon his lectures and rather boring life, to embark on an adventure to find the true meaning of life. The cast also includes Martina Gedeck, August Diehl, Nicolau Breyner, Adriano Luz, José Wallenstein and Beatriz Batarda.

Produced by Michael Lehmann, Kerstin Ramcke, Günther Russ, Andreas Knoblauch, Peter Reichenbach and Benjamin Seikel, Night Train to Lisbon has already been licensed to TMG-owned Concorde Filmverleih for Germany, Frenetic Films for Switzerland and Paradiso for Benelux. PalmStar Media Capital has recently come on board to round out the financing.
