Wallimage/Bruxellimage has just announced the results of its 9th interregional session, the first of the 2011/2012 season. Five projects have been awarded funding by the committee.

In the wake of its opening-up to Cross-Media projects, the fund will support a documentary, Mirages by Patric Jean (Male Domination). Specialised for the past few years in this type of multiplatform narrative, Jean sets out to question our religious, political and social beliefs. While here it’s the TV segment that has received backing, Wallimage will also support its transmedia development.

It’s back to a more traditional production with The Siesta Under the Fig Tree, the fourth feature by Belgian director Anne-Marie Etienne (Perfect Match..., Sooner or Later), starring Jonathan Zaccaï, Marie Kremer, Anne Consigny and Gisèle Casadesus. Shot between Luxembourg and Brussels at the start of this autumn, the film centres on three adults who are overburdened by their professional, parental and romantic lives. They rediscover how to live when they accompany an old lady who is dying.

The Siesta Under the Fig Tree is produced by France’s Mact Productions, in co-production with Tarantula Belgium and Tarantula Luxembourg.

Wallimage/ Bruxellimage will also back Norbert Ter Hall’s Dutch production Atomium, a love story in the heart of Europe, produced by Phanta Vision in the Netherlands, and co-produced by Eyeworks for Belgium.

Finally, Wallimage/Bruxellimage will take a closer interest in romantic dithering with Joel Vanhoebrouck’s Flemish project Brasserie Romantiek, an ensemble film about Saint Valentine’s Day. Does it remind you of Zot van A? That’s just as well, as it stars some of the cast members from Jan Verheyen’s film, including Barbara Sarafian and Filip Peeters.

The film will be produced by A Private View for Flanders, and Artémis for the French-speaking part of the country.
