The Irish Film Board (IFB) is pumping a total of €5.3 million into production and development. This investment will generate €38 million worth of Irish production activity according to IFB estimates.

The IFB is backing Neil Jordan’s vampire film Byzantium and estimates that the production will result in an inflow of some €7 million into the Irish economy. Mister John, the first Ireland-Singapore feature co-production to be directed by the director duo Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor (Helen) also gets IFB backing as does Jim Sheridan’s reimagining of Into The West.

Short film Oscar nominee, director Steph Green has also received support for her feature debut Run and Jump and short film maker Peter McDonald gets development funding for his debut The Steamroller.

IFB CEO James Hickey said, “The strength and breadth of applications for funding this quarter was diverse and impressive and shows the strong mix between large scale feature length productions, animation and documentary films. These funding decisions reflect the Board’s intention to foster Irish talent and creativity as well as support productions that have a strong opportunity of enjoying commercial success.”
