Co-scripted by the director, Karim Boukercha and Jean-Claude Grunberg, the film traces the misadventures of Marc Tourneuil (Elmaleh), the new head of Phénix, Europe’s biggest bank. He is a greedy, sexually obsessed, lying, cheating cynic; to get to the top, he has had to kill off his predecessor Jacques de Marmande, ditch the old system, and push aside long-time shareholder Richard de la Suze.

But in this world where hunger for money and power are masters of the game, Marc has perhaps found his masters: an American pension fund.

Capital is produced by Michèle Ray-Gavras for KG Productions. Its €7.97m budget includes co-production support from France 2 Cinéma, a €650,000 advance on receipts from the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC) and pre-acquisitions from Canal + and Ciné +.

The ten-week shoot will take place in Paris and the surrounding area (including in Herblay), with a few days in London too (where Bertrand Faivre of Le Bureau will handle executive production). The film will be released in French theatres by Mars Distribution, while international sales are still under negotiation.
