Newcomer topples Untouchable

20/03/2012 - One might have expected Türkisch für Anfänger [trailer] (lit. "Turkish for beginners") by Bora Dagtekin, an adaptation of the cult television series of the same name by the same creator and with the same team, to have made such a bang in the box office. But now its distributor Constantin can also brag to have released the film that toppled Untouchable [trailer] from its throne at the top of the German box office, where it had remained for ten weeks and where is still remains most popular film of the year so far with over 6.8 million admissions, far ahead of Star Wars and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo who yet have to pass 1 million spectators.
Overall results for this week-end might have been a disappointment in view of the new films recently released (read more) with barely 1.42 million admissions in total, but newcomer Türkisch für Anfänger sold 420,000 tickets and bumped Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache’s comedy down to number two, with only 235,000 tickets sold. In third position came John Carter, distributed by Walt Disney, with 126,000 tickets sold.
