Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud prepare Les saisons
by Fabien Lemercier
13/04/2012 - Blue chips at the French and international box office, documentary filmmaker duo Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud (photo) are preparing their next feature-length documentary, Les saisons (lit. "The seasons"). The film is to retrace the history of Europe's diverse fauna and flora since the Ice Age. The filmmakers are currently looking for a forest to be used as a backdrop for the filming.
The success of Winged Migration (2.7 million admissions in France in 2001-2002 and 4.6 million viewers in the rest of the world, nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary in 2003) and Oceans [trailer] (2.8 million cinema-goers in France in 2010 and 7.5 million internationally) gave international visibility to the two filmmakers and to their production company Galatée Films (headed by Jacques Perrin), a company that also did very well in 2004 with its fiction feature The Chorus [trailer]. Pathé, who is a 15.6 % shareholder in the company, will most probably distribute Les saisons in France and sell it internationally. Filming is not expected to start before the winter 2012-2013.
