29/05/2012 - The Grand Prix for Reality [trailer, film focus] (see the review) by Italy’s Matteo Garrone (photo), the award for Best Director forPost Tenebras Lux [trailer] by Mexico’s Carlos Reygadas (review), the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actress for Beyond the Hills [trailer, film focus] by Romania’s Cristian Mungiu (review) the Jury’s prize for The Angels’ Share [trailer, film focus] by UK’s Ken Loach (review) : with five awards for four films in its line-up, French distribution company Le Pacte (which also co-produced the first two films) performed exceptionally at the 65th Cannes Film Festival awards. Confirming its well-known flair for good quality art-house, and especially European, film, Jean Labadie’s company now has some very valid reasons for bringing these features to French cinemas.
Le Pacte will launch Ken Loach’s The Angels’ Share on June 27, Matteo Garrone’s Reality on August 22 and will probably release Mungiu’s Beyond the Hills and Carlos Reygadas’ Post Tenebras Lux in the autumn.
Worth noting that Le Pacte will also distribute the fierce Sightseers [trailer, film focus] in France, by Britain’s Ben Wheatley, well received at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, but that the Paris-based company will first release Kill List [trailer] on July 11, the director’s previous film by the same director, who is building himself a reputation as a cult author.
