Mar Coll wraps shooting on her second feature, El desconcierto

- After the success of Three days with the Family, the filmmaker born in Barcelona in 1981 is directing a new drama starring Nora Navas.

This April and May, cameras rolled on El desconcierto (provisional title - lit. "Bewilderment"), the latest film by one of Spain's youngest and most promising women film directors, Mar Coll (photo). After surprising everybody with the small and delicate Three days with the Family [+see also:

, awarded the Goya for best novel director in 2010, Coll has taken the next difficult step of a second feature with the added challenge of having to meet high expectations.

The film will "show bewilderment as a state of mind that is not only logical but also desirable and necessary at certain points in our existence," she told the Spanish Film Academy's magazine. After seven and a half weeks of filming in and around Barcelona, El desconcierto is now being edited.

Like her first feature, Coll's new film is produced by Sergi Casamitjana, Lita Roig, and Aintza Serra for Escándalo Films, the production company associated with the ESCAC film school and that has over the last years proved itself as one of the freshest, most versatile production companies in Spain and even Europe (read more).

In the screenplay, re-written with Valentina Viso, Geni is a 38-year-old woman who finds it difficult to fit back into her world after a terrible, physically and mentally scarring traffic accident. Nora Navas (Goya for best actress in Black Bread [+see also:

) has taken on the main role, beside Clara Segura, Pau Durà, Valeria Bertucelli, and Ágatha Roca.

El desconcierto, whose budget is estimated to have reached € 2.4m, is co-produced by Televisió de Catalunya in collaboration with Televisión Española, with the support of the ICEC (Instituto Catalán de las Empresas Culturales).
