Farewell to Giuseppe Bertolucci
by Cineuropa
18/06/2012 - "I owe everything to Giuseppe Bertolucci. He was my first friend, my first director, my first author. He was the one to teach me how to read poetry, to move, to walk in this world, to look at the sky, to understand where beauty comes from and to recognise it. And boldness and bravery". These were the words of Roberto Benigni on the news of Bertolucci's death in Diso (Lecce), at only 65 years old, following a long illness.
The director and screenwriter's death has saddened everyone in the Italian cultural world. A director of Bologna's Cineteca for many years, Giuseppe Bertolucci had made a variety of different films, including Berlinguer I Love You with Roberto Benigni. He had also worked together with his brother Bernardo on the script for Novecento.
