German films in Jerusalem
by German Films
11/07/2012 - The Jerusalem Film Festival (July 5 - 14) is featuring a fine selection of German films, dominated as is often the case at the moment by a large number of quality coproductions, as the programme of the 'Panorama' section shows: it includes Czech director Tomas Lunak's Alois nebel [trailer] (coproduced in Germany by Pallas Film GmbH), Sergej Loznitsa's Cannes contender In the Fog [trailer] (co-produced byMa.Ja.De Filmproduktions-GmbH), Edwin's Berlin title Postcards From The Zoo [trailer] (Pallas Film - see review), Miguel Gomes' Berlin-awarded Tabu [trailer, film focus] (photo; co-produced by Komplizen Film), and the German/Irish feature Death of a Superhero [trailer] by Ian Fitzgibbon (Bavaria Film).
Other sections are screening among others Volker Schlöndorff's latest effort, the French/German coproduction Calm At Sea (co-produced by Provobis Film), Turkey's Özcan Alper's Future Lasts Forever [trailer] (co-produced by unafilm), and Clarissa Campolina's Swirl [trailer].
The Documentary Films sidebar presents most of the few fully German productions selected this year: Ulrike Ottinger's Under Snow (produced by Ulrike Ottinger Filmproduktion and ma.ja.de), Brigitte Kramer's documentary on Ottinger, Ulrike Ottinger - Die Nomadin vom See (filmsyndikat), and the strikingly modern, minimalistic and architectural Work Hard Play Hard by Carmen Losmann (HUPE Film- & Fernsehproduktion). The non-fiction section also includes the Danish/German co-production Putin's Kiss by Lise Birk Pedersen (co-produced by Kloos & Co Medien), and Victor Kossakovsky's Vivan las antipodas [trailer] (ma.ja.de).
