Fonteyne, Brosens and Woodworth Lido bound

26/07/2012 - Fonteyne came to prominence in 1998 with his second film, the daringly-entitled A Pornographic Affair about a couple (played by Nathalie Baye and Sergi López) who were not meant to meet. A couple who talk of love and of sex. The film met with success among audiences and critics alike. In 2004, he returned with Gilles’ Wife [trailer], an intense portrait of a woman in love (Emmanuelle Devos), who lives only for her lover and who sees her husband ever less (Clovis Cornillac) who falls in love with another woman (Laura Smet).

With Tango Libre [trailer, film focus] (photo), it is not a love triangle that Fonteyne invites us to, but a love quadrangle. François Damiens plays JC, a prison guard seduced by the woman who shares life and love with two prisoners who he has under his guard. Set against a background of tango, the movement of bodies and feelings traverses throughout, and questions all the certainties in the life of JC. Starring alongside Damiens are Anne Paulicevich, Sergi López and Jan Hamenecker.

Tango Libre is produced by Artémis Productions, a long-time and loyal partner of Fonteyne (Max & Bobo was the first feature by the director and the outfit), in co-production with Samsa Film (Luxembourg) and Une liaison cinématographique (France), in collaboration with Nord Ouest Film, Minds Meet and RTBF, with backing from CCA and Wallimage. Sold by Films Distribution, the film will be distributed in Belgium through Cinéart and will make its Belgian premiere on September 28 at the opening of the 27th Namur International Film Festival, hitting screens on November 7, 2012. In France distribution is being handled by Rezo , with release slated for November 21.

Another film representing Belgium in competition at the Venice Film Festival is La 5ème Saison [trailer, film focus], directed by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth (see article). The two filmmakers won the Lion of the Future Award at the 2006 Venice Film Festival for their debut feature Khadak [trailer, film focus].
