Lars takes Dogma to Russia

Danish director and co-founder of the Dogma 95 movement, Lars von Trier, has signed a contract allowing a Russian director to make a film according to the tenets of this Spartan filmmaking style. According to an article published on 11 March by Danish daily newspaper, Extra Bladet, von Trier and his production company, Zentropa, had long nursed the dream of making a Dogma film in Russia, but until now, were unable to find a partner. According to the article Zentropa signed a contract with Alexander Bashirov, one of Russia’s most adventurous and provocative filmmakers, whereby von Trier will supply $100,000 (Euros90,678) and equipment. Filming is scheduled to begin in St Petersburg in the summer.
