After a brief five weeks of filming in the Gallician town of A Coruña, young director Alejandro Marzoa (photo - Vigo, 1981) is now editing his first feature film, Somos gente honrada (lit. “We are honest people”). Its executive producers, Emma Lustres and José Corbacho, describe it as “a delicious comedy that speaks of contemporary people in quite extraordinary situations.” It was written by Marzoa himself with Miguel Ángel Blanca and Juan Cruz, with the collaboration of Jaume Ripoll.

Produced by Borja Pena for Vaca Films and Toni Carrizosa for El Terrat on a budget of €1.8m, the films is about Suso and Manuel, two fathers and childhood best friends. At the age of 50, they find themselves unemployed. Just as the situation is becoming unbearable, a miracle happens. Out fishing one day, they find a 10-kilo packet of cocaine.

The cast is made up of Paco Tous, Miguel De Lira, Unax Ugalde, Manuela Vellés, Marisol Membrillo, and Antonio Durán “Morris”.

Behind this comedy is one of Spain's most internationally renowned production companies, Vaca Films, who has produced films such as Cell 211 [+see also:

, and the soon-to-be-released Invasor (lit. “Invader”). Somos gente honrada is a novelty in the company’s editorial line, as so far it has mostly produced genre films and thrillers.

The comedy should be ready in time for next spring, the production company has told Cineuropa. Although they are still negotiating with various international sales agencies, they intend to launch the film on the international market at the American Film Market 2012.
