German films on a trip to Spain21/09/2012 - The 60th San Sebastian Film Festival (September 21-29) is presenting a wide selection of German-financed films, especially co-productions, starting with the competition title The Dead and the Living [trailer, film focus] by Austrian director Barbara Albert (photo - co-produced by the German outfit Komplizen Film Film), and the Zabaltegi Pearls selection Love [trailer, film focus] by Michael Haneke (co-produced by X Filme Creative Pool GmbH, which is to receive the FIPRESCI Grand Prix of the year today during the opening gala.

The important New Directors competition features Romania's Marian Crisan's Rocker (co-produced by Departures Film), Britain's Scott Graham's Shell (co-produced by Flying Moon Filmproduktion GmbH), the German-Swiss co-production Summer Outside by Friederike Jehn (co-produced by Zum Goldenen Lamm Filmproduktion) and Chile's Fernando Guzzoni's Dog Flesh (co-produced by Hanfgarn & Ufer Filmproduktion).

Zabaltegi Specials will screen Rosa von Praunheim's King of Comics (produced by Rosa von Praunheim Film), while the programme of the International Film Students Meeting includes two French/German co-productions from the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris: Sylvie Coisne's Hier j'étais deux and Friederike Fiek's Work.

Germany's commitment to international ventures is manifest in the programme with several country-themed sections: Horizontes Latinos presents Uruguay's Alicia Cano's The Bella Vista and Mexico's star director Carlos Reygadas' Post Tenebras Lux (Best Director award in Cannes), while Made In Spain features Stefan Butzmühlen and Cristina Diz' Sleepless Knights, produced by Salzgeber & Co. Medien GmbH but shot in Spain.

Included in the American comedy sidebar are three German co-productions : The Hangover (coproduced by IFP Westcoast Erste), Smiley Face (co-produced by Apollo ProMovie 3 Filmproduktion), and Zoolander (co-produced by MFP Munich Film Partners).
