18/10/2012 - Dutch director Jim Taihuttu has started shooting his second film, the crime drama Wolf

Filming began earlier this week on Wolf the highly anticipated second feature from Dutch director Jim Taihuttu (photo).

The film-maker's debut, co-directed with Victor Ponten, was the road movie Rabat [+see also:

film profile], which was a surprise Best Film nominee and Best Actor winner at the 2011 Golden Calves, the Dutch national film awards.

Wolf, which will be shot in black-and-white by Rabat and Wavumba cinematographer Lennart Verstegen, is described as a crime thriller that will offer insight into "a contemporary world where a new generation of tough-as-nails criminal makes itself heard in the metropolises of Europe".

Taihuttu also wrote the screenplay for the film.

Two of the leads of Rabat, Best Actor Golden Calf winner Nasrdin Dchar and Marwan Kenzari will play the leads opposite Raymond Thiry (Winter in Wartime), Chemseddine Amar (Spangas), Cahit Ölmez (Dutch foreign-language Oscar submission Kauwboy [+see also:

film profile]) and Bo Maerten (Timboektoe).

The film will again be produced by Habbekrats, a production company specializing in music videos that made its feature debut with Rabat and is run by Taihuttu with Victor and Julius Ponten.

Unlike Rabat, however, the project received institutional backing from Netherlands Film Fund, Mediafonds, CoBO Fund and aid from Dutch broadcaster NTR and TopNotch.

Lumière will release the film on September 12, 2013.
