Denmark's LevelK does docs, selling Planet RE:think to Germany

Premiered during the UN Rio+20 Summit on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Danish director-producer Eskild Hardt's Planet RE:think has been licensed to Munich-based Tiberius Film for German distribution. The Ace & Ace production focuses on global excess consumption of natural resources, presenting a sustainable economy and a way out of the global financial crisis.

Planet RE:think is handled by Copenhagen and New York-based international sales boutique LevelK, which is building up a catalogue of documentaries – Do Docs – aiming "to make you open to new ideas and see the world in a different light", according to Managing Director Tine Klint.

One of her pick-ups, Swedish-Iranian director Nahid Persson's Prostitution behind the Veil (2004), was recently No 1 Doc on Hulu, the US streaming service operated by NBCUniversal, Fox, Disney-ABC and Providence. The film follows two young women raising children and supporting drug habits through prostitution in Iran.

Danish director Omar Shargawi's 1Ž2 Revolution (2011), depicting his and co-director Karim El Hakim's experience of the Cairo uprising when they arrived for an assignment on January 27, 2011, will next month (November) be released in the US by Focus Features.

Klint has just acquired New Zealand writer-director Peter Young's first feature documentary, The Last Ocean, exploring the effects over-fishing on the oceans: "The story of the race to protect Earth's last untouched ocean (the Ross Sea, Antarctica) before our insatiable appetite for fish destroys it." Young also produced for his Fisheye Films.
