Skyfall is the limit as Bond smashes $1 billion benchmark

Sam Mendes’ rousing addition to the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, is on a record-breaking spree. On its way to becoming the highest grossing Bond film of all time, the film has grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office. The film is also the first in UK history to breach the £100 million mark. The previous highest Bond grosser worldwide was 2006’s Casino Royale [+see also:

that grossed some $596 million.

Gary Barber, chairman of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, one of the franchise’s co-producers, said, “It is truly thrilling to reach this incredible milestone. With tremendous gratitude to all of the dedicated distributors and fans across the globe, we are so proud of both Skyfall and our 50 year association with James Bond.”

Another co-producer, Sony Pictures’ Jeff Blake said, “We couldn’t be more excited for producers Michael Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, director Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig and especially the fans who put James Bond in this very rare and very exclusive billion dollar box office club.”

The next Bond film is likely to hit screens in 2014 or 2015.
