Kon-Tiki launches 14th Nordic showcase in Beverly Hills

Los Angeles' Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. 2013 had programmed Norwegian directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning's Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated Kon-Tiki [+see also:

for its opening Saturday (January 12), and since Sandberg, Rønning and members of their crew had flown in for the Golden Globe awards ceremony, they took part in the launch of the 14th showcase.

Sandberg, Rønning, scriptwriter Petter Skavlan and actors Pål Sverre Hagen, Odd-Magnus Williamson and Jakob Oftebro attended the screening of Kon-Tiki at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, and afterwards met the audience at a q&a moderated by festival director James Koenig.

Backed by the American Scandinavian Foundation of Los Angeles, the festival which unspools on January 12, 13, 19, and 20 will this year present a programme of films not only from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, but also from their Baltic neighbours of Latvia and Lithuania.

The programme also includes Danish director Thomas Vinterberg's The Hunt, Finnish director Antti Jokinen's Purge [+see also:

and Kristina Lindström-Maud Nycander's documentary, Palme.

Kon-Tiki was also screened at the 24th Palm Springs International Film Festival, also in California, which ends today (14 January). Every year reaching an audience of app 135,000, the festival this year screened more than 200 films from 60 countries, including a Nordic Focus (20 entries) and most submissions for the Oscar as Best Foreign-Language Feature.
