BOX OFFICE Italy

Cinetel reveals 24% decrease in revenue for January

- Worst result from the last five years. Severe drop for Italian films

Tickets sold amounted to 10,056,000 this January, a 23% drop compared to January 2012.  The drop, recorded by Cinetel (covering 90% of the market), in Italian cinemas also affected total revenue: €64,885,000, representing a 24% drop compared to last January.

The lack of a blockbuster clearly had something to do with the decrease. “This is the worst result from the last five years for January. If you compare results to the best performing year in the last five years, 2011, the drop is equivalent to 47%,” a Cinetel release says.
