Folies Bergères for Isabelle Huppert
by Fabien Lemercier
11/02/2013 - According to our information, Marc Fitoussi will today begin the filming of Folies Bergères, his fourth feature film after La vie d’artiste [trailer] (2007), Copacabana [trailer] (discovered in the Critics' Week in Cannes 2010) and Pauline, détective [trailer] (2012). The cast features Isabelle Huppert (also in The Nun [trailer, film focus, festival scope] at the Berlin Film Festival), Jean-Pierre Darroussin (The Snows of Kilimanjaro [trailer, film focus], currently in theatres in Rendez-vous à Kiruna [trailer, festival scope]), rising star Pio Marmaï (César nominee for Best Newcomer in 2009 and 2011, widely appreciated last May in Cannes in Alyah [trailer]), Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist (the Mikael Blomkvist from the Millénium [trailer, film focus] trilogy), Marina Foïs (César nominee 2012 for Best Actress in Poliss [trailer, film focus]) and Audrey Dana (César nominee 2010 for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Welcome [trailer, film focus]).
Written by the director in collaboration with Sylvie Dauvillier, the screenplay is centered around a couple of breeders from the Vexin region, 50 years old and very alert, who find themselves face-to-face, locked into an increasingly oppressive routine after their children leave home. As a symptom of this malaise, eczema starts to spread on Brigitte’s throat. One day, a party held by young Parisians in the house next door accelerates the latent crisis...
Produced by Caroline Bonmarchand for Avenue B Productions (which already handled Copacabana), Folies Bergères benefits from a France 2 Cinéma co-production, a pre-purchase by OCS (Orange Cinéma Séries) and backing from the Ile-de-France and Haute-Normandie regions. 48 days of filming are scheduled. French distribution and international sales will be handled by SND.
