- Concert of Greek film scores in Belgian capital

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), in cooperation with the ‘European Women’, organised a concert by Eleni Karaindrou, with the participation of the Camerata, top Greek soloists and conductor, Alexandros Murat, at the Royal Theatre of the Monnaie in Brussels on 24 March 2003. The concert is part of the celebrations for the Greek EU presidency (January-June 2003). The audience was charmed by a programme that featured films scores from works directed by Theo Angelopoulos (Voyage to Cythera, The Beekeeper, Landscape in the mist, The Suspended Step of the Stork, Ulysses’ Gaze, Eternity and a Day), fellow Greeks Tonia Marketaki, Christoforos Christofis, Lefteris Xanthopoulos and Germany’s Margarethe von Trotta. Karaindrou has a long history for writing music for the cinema and the theatre.
Karaindrou commented: "My relationship to the movement of the camera is, fundamentally, more important than my relationship to the screenplay. Of course, the music has to underline the story, but the meaning of film is not always explicit in the script. Image and music have to combine to say what cannot easily be said in words.."
