An advance on receipts for four young directors
by Fabien Lemercier
- The first feature films by Salem Brahimi, Vincent Mariette, Simon Rouby and Bernie Goldblat to be subsidized by the CNC
Four first feature films were selected during the second session 2013 of the first college for the advance on receipts of the CNC. Maintenant ils peuvent venir [+see also:
film profile] by Salem Brahimi, which will be produced by KG Productions, features amongst the selected films. Written by the director with Arezki Mellal and based on the latter’s novel of the same name, the screenplay takes place at the end of the 80's when icons were falling, in Algeria as elsewhere. Socialism is on its last legs. Algeria is importing new idols. Which one will win? Capitalism made in IMF? Islam made in Afghanistan? For Nouredine, the first idol to fall is his mother. But it is a battle lost in advance and he has to marry the beautiful Yasmina, on an injunction. The couple will set forth in a society made unstable by absurdity and gradually sinking into fanaticism...
An advance on receipts was also attributed to Tristesse Club by Vincent Mariette, noticed with his short films Le meilleur ami de l’homme, Double Mixte and Les Lézards. Handled by Kazak Productions, the film should feature Ludivine Sagnier and Noémie Lvosky in the cast.
The CNC will also fund the animation project Adama by Simon Rouby, to be produced by Kazak Productions and already praised at the TorinoFilmLab and Le Groupe Ouest. Written by the director and Julien Lilti, the screenplay recounts the mishaps of a Senegalese child in 1917, who goes looking for his brother in the chaos of the First World War.
Another title amongst the lucky few selected in this session for an advance on receipts: Wallay by Bernie Goldblat (Bathisphère Productions).
