Venice: Paul Schrader to preside over the Horizons jury

American director and screenwriter Paul Schrader will be president of the international Horizons jury during the 70th Venice Film Festival (August 28-September 7), which will give out the Horizons award for best film, among other official awards. 

Paul Schrader is among the biggest and most admired filmmakers from the generation that created a New Hollywood. Among others, he directed American Gigolo and Mishima and wrote the script for Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.

In order to pay tribute to Paul Schrader, his new film, The Canyons, will be presented out of competition in Venice. The film was written by Bret Easton Ellis and stars Lindsay Lohan and James Deen. It was made with money gathered from the Kickstarter web platform.
