Ulrich Seidl at the Biografilm: 'My next film will be historical'

- The Austrian director, a guest in Bologna with his Paradise trilogy, has announced his next project

Ulrich Seidl revealed his latest project during the Biografilm in Bologna. “The project I have in the works is a historical film on a legendary figure from northern Austria, a kind of Robin Hood,” the Austrian director said. Seidl is a guest at the Biografilm (7-17 June) with his Paradise trilogy, a tribute to American photography director Ed Lachman.

, presented in Berlin)– has reached a conclusion, the filmmaker will be turning to the character of a marginalised person from two hundred years ago. “We had to deal with monarchy, meaning a very repressive state: a state as criminal as criminals themselves. A bit like today,” Seidl observed.

An endeavour with biographical undertones: “the character actually existed, but naturally, as it’s a film, we will take all needed artistic liberties.” In the mean time, Italian audiences in Bologna can enjoy the three Paradise chapters, which are being screened during the Biografilm in their national premiere, and have yet to be released in cinemas.
