According to our information, since June 5th, the coast of the Landes and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques have provided the backcloth for the shooting of the 4th cinematographic fiction feature by Jacques DeschampsOrient-Extrême. Winner of the Best First Film Award in Venice in 1996 with Méfie-toi de l’eau qui dort, the director is also an excellent documentary filmmaker, as shown by his last opus, Romanès, released on April 10th.

Written by the director, the screenplay begins with a couple at the end of their tether, who are tearing each other apart on a small boat on the open sea. While Aline is absent, Georges takes in a Japanese woman, the victim of a violent man, as well as her family. He sees his home, the maritime landscape and his surroundings gradually transform themselves: everything around him becomes Japanese. He decides to confront the violent man. When Aline returns, Georges has disappeared, but she finds a Japanese man who has been rejected by the sea; she brings him back to life and takes him into her home. The Japanese man ends up taking Georges’s place...

Produced by Jérôme Dopffer for Les Productions BalthazarOrient-Extrême is coproduced by the Belgian company Frakas Productions and Ex Nihilo. Backed by an advance on receipts from the CNC, the feature film also benefits from funding from the Aquitaine region and the support of Etoile Images. 30 days of filming are scheduled. Distribution in French theatres will be handled by Epicentre Films, while international sales are still being negotiated.
